once lost...now seen

never am i more amazed than at the changing of each new season
at the dying of my heart
and the renewal of my soul
one year ago, trapped by the bitter words of what my family thought of my upcoming marriage
two years ago, trapped too often in a dark room in the black hills, just trying to make it out the door to eat breakfast, trapped again by the noise from others
three years ago, trapped by an ever-growing dark night of my soul in the frozen cornfields of iowa.
four years ago, broken by the loss of my soul-sister's broken body.
today, trapped inside this warm coffee house, a university i love to my right, a protection above in knowing i've been lost and now i have seen.
i have seen what i love, what moves me, what makes my heart flutter.
it is not the dream of others.
it is my soul growing-heart aching-tear flowing-life giving yearning to share music with others, build therapeutic relationships, and take part in the most dark and bright nights of others' souls.
(thank you, sufjan stevens, for the inspiration through song.)
amazing grace, sufjan stevens-style
