a good saturday night.

tonight started with a pot of french press coffee.
i got to re-connect with my good friend and fellow YMCA camp counselor (and awesome boss!), Jeff. i also got to meet his wife, hannah.
what a beautiful evening it was.

we shared stories of loss, life, love.
we could all relate that being newlyweds was not what we thought it would be. in some ways, marriage is even better than we could have imagined. in other ways, it is the most soul-stretching experience that, some days, makes you feel like throwing in the towel.

but, what that conversation taught me is that maybe that is what marriage is all about.

it's about those late-night conversations contemplating who should work and who should be in school or confronting the one who loves you most about the hurts they've made you feel. marriage is about working through these issues to learn humility, patience, trust.

it is about growth that you couldn't accomplish alone.

  1. That sounds lovely. I really like that last thought. I think that it is easy to think about personal growth and that adding a person means "Hey, you get to help me grow!" Not that simple~!
